Heavenly Bread Missionary Baptist Church has a rich history. Its date of origin is 1988 located in Silver Springs Maryland. After years of faithful ministry to the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area’s organizations and businesses being that of military bases/personnel, federal government agencies and the general beltway population of which this ministry provided spiritual care and compassion to the stated diverse population. It was after approximately 10 years of service to the identified area Heavenly Bread Missionary Baptist Church officially relocated to St. Louis, Missouri in 2002 to the inner city, Baden neighborhood.
It was during that time, the Lord impressed on the heart of Rev Leonard C. Walker a burning desire to establish that needed ministry which would provide resources for a holistic Biblical education, focused to equip the people of God located within the local community, therein being a critical resource in every aspect of living. Heavenly Bread Missionary Baptist Church makes the statement. “All People Of All Faiths Are Welcome Here.”
It is our Pastor’s determination to present the word of God according to The Holy Bible. By doing so ensuring that the people who have ears to hear will experience the washing of the word in their hearts and minds thereby being made partakers of eternal life as promised through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Rev. Leonard C. Walker, Th.D. is the founding pastor of Heavenly Bread Missionary Baptist Church (1988). He is a Man of God, Husband, Father, community leader, educator, pastoral counselor, Chaplain, teacher and mentor. His experience in ministry spans some 30 plus years covering such areas as Church Building and Development, President of the African American Southern Baptist Fellowship (1999), President of Elohim Bible College, Manna food pantry operations Director and Community business owner. His education consist of BA, B.Th., MA, M.Ed., Ph.D., Th.D.
Sis. Shirley A. Walker is the First Lady of Heavenly Bread Missionary Baptist Church since its doors opened in 1988. She is a woman of God, Wife, mother, community leader, counselor, educator, teacher and mentor. She has been in ministry for 30 plus years involved in the processes of Church Building and Development, Vice President of Elohim Bible College and Manna food pantry operations Assistant Director. She is an educated woman of God possessing such credentials as AA, BS, M.Ed., Ph.D.
The local church is only as effective as the whole body voluntarily subjects themselves to humility, while obeying the will of God in Christ.
